There is software that significantly speeds up the process of redacting video, but even if you do it manually, you are looking at about 10-15 minutes to do one minute of video. And that's on the slow side. Of course, if you look at every police officer on the force, that's a lot of videos. It's way too much for a regular department to handle. But here's the thing. You can be as slow as molasses on fulfilling requests for footage of your meter maid writing tickets. What we need fast-tracked is the footage where....let me turn this up to volume 10...WHERE YOU ARE INJURING OR KILLING PEOPLE. Those should be a priority followed closely by or in conjunction with cases where you are being investigated or sued. Also, I don't need the 10 minutes of a pig riding in his squad car listening to whoever the new Rush Limbaugh is. You can release that later. You can usually get the story in 10 minutes or less. Start with that and then release longer videos or different cams if you think the ten minutes of your cop being an assh#le only looks that way because it's from the wrong angle or it's missing the extra 30 seconds of the beginning that explains why he's using all those racial slurs and has Big Mama in a figure four leg lock.

So how long does it take to manually redact any single officer's cam with 10 minutes of pertinent footage? 2.5 hours max. Maybe a little less if you outsource a relatively small video or use some software.

And so, let's say you have a shooting of a straight, unarmed, heterosexual Black man. And now, Black Trans Lives Matter is picketing your precinct. What should any police chief who loves to talk that transparency horse $h!t do? You take 2.5 hours to redact the video of the officer who shot the man and release it with the permission of the victim or the family of the deceased. Why is that so difficult? Let's see, what other excuses can they use? Oh yeah, they can't release the footage without a court order. It's the law. You know what the law is, right? That $h!t they ignore when it doesn't suit them or when they're harassing Black people (See #WhileBlack).

In any case, that law needs to change, doesn't it? Anyone who supports the status quo needs to be booted out of their position. Also, I've seen enough Law and Order to know cops don't just bust down your door only during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. They wake up judges in the middle of the night to get them to sign off on whatever f#cksh!t they're about to do. Let's assume part of that is drama so I won't even demand that level of responsiveness. How about within 2 to 3 business days so the order can be signed and filed?

"Well, you see, the court docket is full and the soonest we can get you in to sign this piece of paper is next July."

Isn't moving this case to the head of the list worth preempting riots and Molotov cocktails getting tossed? Do you see how full of sh!t they are with their constant stall tactics? When it comes to throwing your Black ass in jail, they get it done with the quickness. When it comes to being held accountable for their misdeeds, it takes longer than it takes the Innocence Project to free an innocent man if they are held accountable at all. This is why I say the longer it takes to release the footage, the dirtier the pigs.
