MROTD: I posted the link to the Ahmaud Arbery murder on May 4th just before it became the latest national race play. I generally don't comment on the day to day revelations of cases like these because they are dreadfully predictable. I prefer to use them to illustrate the pattern and show you why my views are what they are. I blogged about this before, but we're talking thousands of pages of blogs and articles over more than a decade. I have no idea where that blog is so let me repeat what I said here.

It goes like this: A Black man is murdered. Nothing happens for a long time. Social media may pick it up. If so, the correct narrative that it was a racist killing is put forth by intelligent people. The deceased is then put on trial by racists to justify his murder. It's revealed that he did something wrong at some point between birth and the time he was gunned down. The other side is then put into the position of having to defend "a criminal" by noting that hardly a day goes by without every single person breaking some law they are privileged enough not to be murdered for. Furthermore, even if he was guilty of a minor crime, it should not result in summary execution. Tension between a small group of decent people and the rest of the nation continues to ratchet upward. Traditional and social media pressure is put upon the legal system to do something i.e. arrest/charge the killers. An intense enough spotlight finally leads to an arrest and trial where they are ultimately found not guilty or, in rare cases, face a penalty that isn't commensurate with the crime. Rinse and repeat.

Either way, you realize it takes a Herculean effort to even get a half-assed attempt at justice for a Black man. There are cases as egregious as this one all over the country and nothing has been done. Why not? Because there's no spotlight so the cockroaches can continue doing what they normally do under the cover of night. My standard response is that I am anti-police and anti-White. That's bigger than any individual person or pig. I am against Whiteness because I know what it means: Black Death. I am against the institutions that repeatedly and inevitably brings us to these moments and the ones that follow where my views are more problematic to many than state-sanctioned murder. I figure my response pretty much covers me for this case and every one that follows until this country finally craters and turns to dust.
